LOS ANGELES HONORS LOS ÁNGELES AZULES CELEBRATING THEIR LEGACY WITH A STREET NAMED IN THEIR HONOR LOS ÁNGELES AZULES SQUARE
Miami, FL (June 11, 2026) – The legacy of Los Ángeles Azules continues to break boundaries, and this time, the group is adding what will become one of the most significant milestones of their career. Councilmember Imelda Padilla of Council District 6 will host a ceremony on September 14 to officially designate the intersection of Van Nuys Blvd. and Chase St. as Los Ángeles Azules Square (Plaza Los Ángeles Azules), honoring the internationally acclaimed cumbia group ahead of Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month.
The ceremony will be led by Councilmember Imelda Padilla of Council District 6 and will take place as part of the kickoff to Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, highlighting the profound influence of Los Ángeles Azules and Mexican music on the cultural identity of Los Angeles.
Los Ángeles Azules are known for bringing cumbia to stages around the world, including the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico City.
“It is an enormous honor for Los Ángeles Azules to receive this recognition from the City of Los Angeles. For the iconic corner of Van Nuys Blvd. and Chase Street in Panorama City to bear our name represents much more than a tribute to our career: it is a symbol of the deep bond we have built over so many years with this city, with the Latino community, and with the families who have made our music a part of their lives.
“We were proudly born in Iztapalapa and have had the immense fortune of being embraced, through our music, in many places around the world. Without a doubt, the City of Los Angeles holds tremendous meaning for us and will always have a very special place in our hearts. Here, we have found generations of fans who have welcomed us with love, danced to our cumbia, and passed it down from parents to children, making it part of the cultural history of this great city as well.
“We receive this recognition with emotion, pride, and profound gratitude. We extend our thanks to the City of Los Angeles and especially to Councilmember Imelda Padilla of Council District 6 for championing and making this tribute possible, and for joining us in celebrating the Mexican music and culture that, throughout the years, have united so many communities and transcended borders.” — Los Ángeles Azules
This recognition celebrates the group’s decades of musical influence in this vibrant destination located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. The ceremony will include a walk through Plaza Del Valle, the unveiling of the band members’ handprints set in cement, followed by an awards and artwork presentation ceremony, as well as remarks from Councilmember Padilla, Mayor Karen Bass, community leaders, and representatives of the group.
Los Ángeles Azules are the world’s leading cumbia group and have been described as a defining force in modern Latin music. This tribute comes as Councilmember Imelda Padilla (District 6) serves as host and honorary chair of this year’s Latino Heritage Month celebration, recognizing the contributions Latinos have made to the culture and identity of Los Angeles—both today and for generations to come.
