Miami, FL (May 8, 2026) – On Thursday, June 11, the world’s eyes will turn to Mexico as the country opens the FIFA World Cup 2026™ with a celebration filled with sound, color, and profound cultural significance. The first note of the tournament will echo throughout Estadio Ciudad de México, marking the beginning of a competition hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, united by a shared passion for football that connects millions around the globe.
The opening ceremony at Estadio Ciudad de México, set to take place 90 minutes before kickoff, will bring together some of the most recognized Latin music stars in the world. Among the artists taking the stage to bring the Official FIFA World Cup 2026™ Album to life are Alejandro Fernández and Los Ángeles Azules, alongside other major talents including Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Maná, and Tyla.
“The FIFA World Cup is a moment shared by the world, and that begins with the way we open it,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “Beginning in Mexico City and continuing in Toronto and Los Angeles, these ceremonies will unite music, culture, and football in a way that reflects both the individuality of each nation and the unity that defines this tournament. Fans inside the stadium will play an essential role in the show and are encouraged to arrive early, as each opening ceremony will begin 90 minutes before kickoff, starting in Mexico City on Thursday, June 11 at 11:30 a.m. local time. Stadium gates will open four hours before the opening whistle, offering fans a full slate of experiences, including exclusive activations and pre-match rewards.
Mexico will face South Africa in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in a stadium that will make history as the first ever to host three FIFA World Cups.
The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will feature 104 matches across 16 host cities, beginning on Thursday, June 11 in Mexico City and concluding on Sunday, July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium. Tickets and hospitality packages are available through FIFA.com/tickets and will continue to be released throughout the tournament, subject to availability.
